A shoe so good you can barely afford it is hardly a blip in a clothes pocket when it comes to Nike. The sportswear and casual wear giant manages to make stellar sneakers and branded garb without pricing zealous fans out of its market. Nothing could be truer than with the Jordan Brand’s latest re-config of a sneaker with a long-standing predecessor history, the Air Jordan 5 “Retro”.
“Retro” Grade the Air Jordan 5
Every shoe must be able to stand its own as an accoutrement and when the presenters are Michael Jordan and Swoosh, little can be said outside of a partnership that creates shoes of quality. What could be finer than a jaunt from outside of the proverbial shoe box by designer Tinker Hatfield—who never seems to allow any of his OG creations to stand in a corner, nope, nada.
As it is with the Air Jordan 5 “Retro”–Hatfield may have one-upped himself this time by crafting with a solid Black outsole and utilizing White as a colorway to segue from the lower shoe to the upper. A powerful ploy juxtaposing the metallic aura of Silver and Grey that Hatfield masters to draw the eye to the shoe tongues. It’s a visual romp as Tink also frames with a trail of bright Orange.
A rumored Knicks-Flavored Air Jordan 5 may be on the Jordan launch horizon. It’s colorways including a mix of Sail and Orange Peel and Black-Hyper Royal.
Color, color, color
The fiery orange continues at the soles’ outer side as a blazing flash that could also double for a speckled dragon. Light Racer Blue accents the mesh outer lining below the ankle while the memorable double-digit “23” lined in the same Blue and outlined in Orange near the shoe heels. The Cone colorway crosses the toe box and at the eyelets making a pleasing aesthetic.
Air Jordan 5 “Retro” debuted at Nike at a price of $190. The latest AJ 5 released under the Style Code 136027-148 for its designation as part of the Jordan Brand clan, August 2018.
Editors’ Note: There’s a rumored Knicks-Flavored Air Jordan 5 and so exclusive, if you have to ask the price, you already won’t be able to afford it. When it hits the streets with a rumor-anticipated September 8, 2018 debut.
